Advantages of using Plastic Piping (HDPE, CPVC, UPVC and PVC) over GI are as follows
Lower Cost- Usually plastic pipes are preferred because they are economically advantageous when used in place of metallic piping.
Corrosion resistance- Applications like brine service tend to corrode metallic pipes. Plastic piping resistant to brine is a cost effective solution.
No painting requirement- One need not paint plastic pipes, as they are not prone to atmospheric corrosion like metallic pipes. This not only saves cost but also saves valuable time and efforts.
Mostly no insulation requirement- Since plastics are bad conductors of heat, one can usually do without heat-conservation insulation. The cost of insulators like mineral-wool and cladding is reduced.
Very quick fabrication- Unlike metallic pipes where one has to do welding, one can simply use a proper adhesive and be done with a typical piping network in few minutes which might have taken Hours had metallic pipes used. I have seen PVC Pipe Welding Machines too, they offer descent performance as well.
